How to use
Purpose
Online unit converter covering length (meters/km/inches/feet/miles), weight (g/kg/tons/lbs/oz), temperature (Celsius/Fahrenheit/Kelvin), area (sqm/hectares/mu/sqft), volume (L/gallons/cubic-m), speed (km/h, mph, m/s, knots), energy (J/cal/kWh), data storage (B/KB/MB/GB/TB plus binary variants), and more. All conversion runs locally with standard formulas.
Steps
- Pick category: length / weight / temperature / area / volume / speed / energy / data / time
- Left column: value + source unit
- Right column auto-shows results across all target units
- Common units first (meter, km, inch, foot)
- Scientific units (light year, ångström, Planck length) grouped separately
- China-local units: mu, jin, gongli, cubic meter
- Imperial: mile, pound, gallon, Fahrenheit
- Precision: 6 significant digits default, adjustable
FAQ
- Exact inch-to-cm?
- 1 inch = 2.54 cm exact (1959 international agreement). Mnemonic: 1 in = 2.54 cm; 1 m = 39.37 in; 1 ft = 30.48 cm = 12 in. A 27" display diagonal = 27 × 2.54 = 68.58 cm.
- How many sqm in 1 mu?
- China mainland mu (market mu) = 666.67 sqm. Taiwan 甲 = 0.9699 hectares = 9699 sqm (≈ 14.55 mu). Japan 反 = 991.7 sqm (≈ 1.49 mu). Cross-region contracts must specify which standard.
- Is 1 GB = 1024 MB or 1000 MB?
- Depends on context. OS / memory vendors: 1 GB = 1024 MB (binary). Hard drive vendors / network speeds: 1 GB = 1000 MB (decimal — marketing-friendly). Strict standard: 1 GB = 1000 MB (SI), 1 GiB = 1024 MiB (IEC). Tool supports both. Why a 1TB drive shows 931 GB? Vendor uses decimal (10^12), OS shows binary (2^40), ~9% difference.
- How to convert Celsius and Fahrenheit?
- F = C × 9/5 + 32; C = (F - 32) × 5/9. Memorable points: 0°C = 32°F (water freeze), 100°C = 212°F (water boil), 37°C = 98.6°F (body temperature), -40°C = -40°F (only equal point). Kelvin = Celsius + 273.15.
- mph and km/h?
- 1 mph = 1.609 km/h (exact 1.609344). Common speeds: 60 mph = 97 km/h ≈ 100; 100 mph = 161 km/h. Knot (nautical/aviation): 1 knot = 1 nautical mile/hour = 1.852 km/h.
Use cases
- Overseas shopping: inch/cm clothing/shoe/screen sizes
- Device specs: international products in lb/inch/Fahrenheit to national standards
- Engineering: imperial drawings (ft/inch) to metric
- Storage: hard drive/memory/bandwidth in binary vs decimal
- Scientific: physics/chemistry unit conversion
Use cases
Overseas shopping sizes, device specs, engineering drawings, storage capacity, scientific units. Everyone uses it. Multi-system (metric/imperial/Chinese-traditional/scientific), binary-vs-decimal storage, adjustable precision are the differentiators.
